Ok this is not a game , but merely a thread about everyone's opnion.
So here it goes , rank the 6 main actors , NOT the characters based on their acting qualities and NOT because they are hot. :P I was just wondering to myself who are the best of the boys , the best of girls and the best over all and that's how I came up with this thread.:D

that is so hard..characters , hotness, those have been factors... also couples and chemistry..... i have seen each of them in movies so I can judge them on their acting ability...if i was going for females..i would have to say lisa...she has done wonderful movies like wonderland and object of sex...far away from phoebe character....for the males that might be harder...loved matthew in scrubs and he was a good director..any actor that can direct has my respect ..because i can't do it...the trouble is matthew has played more roles that are similar to his character, Chandler in movies. Matt hasn't really done that much and I did see him in Married With Children as Kelly's date
(wow coinicdence christina applegate and him work together] he is good on his series but that is extension of friends...i guess for range and talent it would have to be david...he is an excellent physical comedian, can do a lot things with his voice and delivery (my sandwich!!!) i have also seen him in other things and he can do drama as well, for the girls....jennifer seems to be the favorite...but also has possibilty to be stereotyped in romantic roles...loved her in rock star...courteney one word ...scream...

I'd say Lisa first purely because she seems least like her character, and is therefore doing the most acting.
I was willing to rank them all until I saw something about not looking at movies? Well, then we can't judge their acting. And if you want us to look at just Friends, do you want the best character actor, dramatic/emotive, comic?

I really like all of the actors but if i have to chose, it has to be this way:

Well, this is quite hard to tell so I'll give the extremes.

I like Lisa Kudrow's acting the best. Of course her lines are always funny but she goes beyond. She's given Phoebe a body language of her own, some dynamics in her voice that make her unique. I often rewind 'n replay on her. I think there's a lot of subtlety in her slight head nodding and in the way she gets the most fun from the simpler lines. In addition, as a mediocre guitar player myself, I can't help having sympathy for both the character and the actress :cool:

The acting I like the least is David Schwimmer's.
I think he's (very) good when he has to be burlesque but slightly below the par, and sometimes annoying, when it comes to emotion.
As an example, remember Ross in the stairs in the prom video, after the girls leave ? Well, I wish he'd have teary eyes at this very moment. It could have made the scene even more powerful. Now, it could be argued that a funny show can't go in this direction. On the contrary in american cinematography, many have proved this is possible, from Charlie Chaplin to Woody Allen: emotional moments do not destroy the fun but reinforce it. And think of it, this is where the warmth of 'Friends' comes from. So I find David too neutral in these situations.

Oh well, anyway, maybe they've had strong recommendations as to not overact so as to preserve characters unity.. so the ranking question would be pointless in the end :)

2. Lisa Kudrow - like someone else said, Lisa is actually incredibly intelligent and is the least like her character in real life
3. Matthew Perry - Good at punch lines and awesome facial expressions

5. Jennifer Aniston - She's awesome, but I think she gets more credit than she deserves sometimes
6. Matt LeBlanc - Maybe it's his character, but he tends to be very linear and bland

Jennifer can do ANYTHINH as Rachel on "friends" she can be emotional and funny, cry funny, give a real birth scene!! her chemistry with ross is amazing (even though that doesnt count in this thread lol) she can be spoiled, but honestand amazing, and genuinely nice. It wasn't hard to decide the first two, because Lisa does fantastic things with her character Phoebe, and Matthew has the most brilliant sense of comedic timing, but the rest was a real challenge. If it wasn't just based on the show, the list definitely would have been different, but for only Friends I think it's pretty accurate. I have to give kudos to Matt m(everyone seems to put him last on the list, and even I put him pretty low) for his excellent facial expressions. He has the best range of hilarious expresssions than anyone else on the show, even Perry, and that's saying something.

I have to say this is my opinion, and i think all of of here are rating the actors of their acting abilty; which is good. Jennifer may not have the hardest acting role on "friends" as rachel green, but she is good and soooo funny.
I am not rating her #1 because she is my fav actress! but because her films are amazing and I love i think she is brilliant

I love all six of them and I don't think there's a weak link but here's how I would rank them:

1. Lisa Kudrow (most pliable and effortless)
2. Matthew Perry (I love the simplicty and truthfulness of his dramatic scenes)
3. Matt le Blanc (sometimes he's oblivious w/ the comedy and sometimes too aware, I prefer the former)
4. Jennifer Aniston (sometimes she has the tendency to "prettify" dramatic moments but I do believe she is this generation's Mary Tyler Moore)
5. David Schwimmer (can really be over the top sometimes, but he has a really great comedic timing)
6. Courteney Cox (give her a bad line and she won't be able to save it the way Lisa or David can)

People need to look at their overall acting ability and not just their characters on Friends...i really don't think David Scwhimmer deserves bottom spot on anyone's list he is extremely talented and has incredible range and of course he is making his Broadway debut which is an incredible achievement by anyones standards.....

Hmm... I'll try to be objective and rank them by their acting abilities rather than how much I like their characters. (it seems that some people are listing certain characters at the top just because they're their favorite)

1. David Schwimmer (especially in the latter seasons, his acting really stood out. He really stands out especially when he's in predicaments, for example when confronting Mona about their relationship in TOW Ross' Step Forward).

2. Lisa Kudrow (great actress, she delivers even the simplest lines in the funniest ways)

3. Jennifer Aniston (especially in emotional scenes)

4. Matthew Perry

5. Courtney Cox

6. Matt LeBlanc

All of them are great of course, which is a big reason why the show worked, but I think David Schwimmer's acting really stands out.

i think the most credible were matthew perry and jennifer aniston. but i wouldn't go past schwimmer or lisa kudrow. courtney and matt leblanc sometimes deliver their lines a little forced imho.
in the end, none of them is a great actor, but they all gave their characters a particular charm - which is probably why we love them so much.

This is really hard because they all play such different characters. They say comedy is the hardest acting style. I think Phoebe would be a really difficult character to play because she is so different whereas Monica for example could be someone you'd meet on the street, a regular person. I've never met a Phoebe! Ans Matthew Perry has said that Chandler is an exaggerated Matthew and therefore wonder how much he really needs to act. So I would say based on friends and movies they've done:
