David Arquette and wife Courteney Cox have teamed with "Everybody Loves Raymond" writer-producer Jeremy Stevens for a comedy project to star Arquette.

The untitled show, which has been picked up by ABC with a script commitment, centers on a reluctant PI (Arquette) whose life changes when his 10-year-old son and ex-wife come back to town after eight years.

Warner Bros. Television is producing the project with Arquette and Cox's studio-based Coquette Prods.

Stevens is penning the script and is executive producing with Arquette and Cox.

This past development season, Arquette starred in the one-hour pilot "The Commuters," which was in consideration at CBS.

The actor, who most recently co-starred in Robert Rodriguez's "The Adventures of Sharkboy & Lavagirl in 3-D" will next be seen in "The Darwin Awards," which will be featured at the Sundance Film Festival, and the CBS telefilm "Time Bomb," in which he stars opposite Richard T. Jones.

Arquette is repped by the Gersh Agency and manager Steven Siebert at Lighthouse Entertainment.

Cox is repped by WMA and Brillstein-Grey Management.

Stevens' stint on CBS' "Everybody Loves Raymond" netted him two best comedy series Emmys -- in 2003 and 2005 -- which he shared with the rest of the show's producing team.

WMA-repped Stevens also co-penned "Raymond's" finale last year.
