Matthew Perry will play a grown-up version of Zac Efron in 17, New Line's teen comedy being directed by Burr Steers, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Jason Filardi-penned script follows a middle-age father who wakes up to find he's 17 again. In order to be close to his children, he enrolls in the same school as them.

Production begins early next month. Leslie Mann plays Perry's wife in the film.

Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing via their Offspring Entertainment banner.

Im alittle confused with this storyline. Is Zac Efron playing Matthew's character when he becomes a teenager because that's what I read on one website. And if he does play Matty's character when he turns into the teenager Matty might not be the main role which is disappointing. Zac will have more scenes than Matty

"I used to think Matthew Perry was so handsome and now he is not attractive at all" This person has to be very shallow and blind! People are so mean. I also think Matty is gorgeous. There are lots of male stars who I don't think hold a candle to Matthew Perry.

I'm curious, as I keep hearing two contradictory plots about this movie!

One is that there is one character - a man who wakes up to find he is 17 again...this is on IMDb.

The second, as stated here (http://www.feedsyndicate.com/articles/7009292642) reads:
In a bid to find out exactly what goes on in his children's lives, the newly-young character, played by Zac Efron, sneakily enrolls at their school.

Meanwhile, Zac's character has to deal with waking up to find himself a middle-aged man with a wife and family.


Which would mean there are two characters (and would solve the problem of them not looking alike)...

The use of "confused wife" to describe that character, as I've seen online, would seem to suggest the latter plot but could, I guess, also suggest the former. Anyone know for sure if it's more like Big/13 Going On 30 (i.e. one character changing age) or Freaky Friday (body-swapping?)

I would probably prefer the body-swapping plot as it would mean Matthew would be in more of it, lol!

Of course they could do like what they did in the 70s version of Freaky Friday and have voice over inner monolouge. Go rent it to understand what the hell I'm talking about.

Now you see, I didn't see the new version of Freaky Friday. I only saw the orginal 70s version of the movie.

But it's a possiblity because the plot for this movie sounds like a cross between Big and Freaky Friday. Of course it also sounds like this 80s film called 18 Again but very few people have heard of that movie. LOL

You know what's funny (and I just finally remembered after all this time?) About three years ago when I was in 8th grade Zac Efron came to talk to our drama class about acting, because he's cousins with a friend of mine who was in that class. I asked him some question that I don't quite remember...but I know it had something to do with Matthew Perry. All I can remember is that it made him laugh and then he gave some equally witty remark and our exchange was over. Maybe, since he's working with Matthew now, some part of his brain is now thinking "I wonder what ever happened to that girl that liked Matthew Perry?"

It's a long shot. But if nothing else, an amusing anecdote!
